The Tunghai XPlorer Project’s innovative course, “College Dialogue,” received funding from the Department of Education.

 

Tunghai’s XPlorer Project demonstrated outstanding performance, assisting over 25 professors transition their course, engaging 2,000 students in exploring their potential. Tunghai University received affirmation from the Department of Education for a consecutive second phase. Liu Jeng, the vice president of Tunghai expressed that the university will continue to improve and innovate courses, and continuously progress as a learner-centered university.

 

On the 11th, Tunghai held the “Exploration: Collaborative Interuniversity Course Development Seminar'', inviting professor that participated in the first session of XPlorer Project, Professor Yu-San Chang from Department of Japanese Language and Culture, and Profess Yi-In Lee from Department of International Business to share how to develop collaborative interuniversity courses, innovate teaching method, and incorporate new norms and technology to enhance learning and competency development of students. This initiative addresses future challenges in higher education, such as collaborative learning among students and professors, interuniversity courses and guidance for self-directed learning.

 

During the first phase of XPlorer Project, Tunghai University focused on innovation in humanities, such as the integration of “University Dialogue”, a microcredit course to aid transitions of freshmen from high school to university through competency-directed teaching with core-competency set by university. The project not only aids over 25 professors from humanities to redevelop and innovate their courses, also attracts over 2,000 students to enroll in these innovative courses. Among these courses,  “University Dialogue” has the most feedback. University expressed, this pre-university interdisciplinary general education course enlightens students to reflect and look at university learning in a completely different light. Liu Jeng points out the project enhances student’s motivation for self-directed learning, exploration of potential, and application of knowledge in daily life. Those progress was crucial in securing the funding for the second phase of XPlorer Project from the Department of Education.

 

Liu Jeng expressed, students were able to participate in self-directed online learning during winter break by applying to “How Diversified Online Learning”, which allows students to explore potentials and consciously utilize online resources for self-improvement. Tunghai aspires to make students feel the university is learner-centered through continuous innovation of courses, advanced general education and gap week during the upcoming second phase of XPlorer Project.
